It's spring!!!
We bought leaf compost a couple weeks ago, and all this week I was excited to mix it into the garden. Last year I only bought one bag, but for an area the size of our plot, you're really supposed to have five or so, so I went all out.
So now all the planting beds look rich and loamy and delicious:
I only actually read the bag after doing all the digging. It turns out this particular leaf compost is sold by the state of Maryland. When they do leaf collections in the fall they set up a huge composting operation. In the spring they add grass clippings, and by the next year they have compost to sell. That's kind of cool.
When I was clearing out old leaves and grass behind the lavender bush, I discovered daffodils! Not a crowd or even a host, but still...
(These photos are from my cellphone. I promise better quality in the future.)
Also today I ordered a whole bunch of seeds from Burpee!
